ROBERTS, Griffith Owen 1867 - 1950

Born at Maentwrog, North Wales, in 1867. He was educated at the village school, Clynnog Grammar School, and Handsworth College. He commenced his ministry in 1894, and served with great acceptance in the three Welsh Districts.

He was a faithful administrator, a conscientious circuit minister, a man of strong convictions, and an ardent advocate of temperance and social welfare. A poet and philosopher, he made many contributions to the Welsh Press, and was known in bardic circles as ‘ Morfin ‘ He was a man of sterling character who combined gentleness and courage.

His preaching was thoughtful, intense, and eloquent.

He became a Supernumerary in 1931, and settled at Rhos- on-Sea, where he continued to preach with power almost to the end. He knew from experience what tribulation and sorrow meant.

His wife, who predeceased him last September, had been in ill-health for many years and needed his constant care. He endured sorrow with the fortitude and radiant faith of a soul that had learned to walk humbly with God.

He died in his sleep on 6th April 1950, in the eighty-fourth year of his life and the fifty-sixth of his ministry.
