JONES, David Meurig 1866 - 1950

Born at Pontrhydygroes, Cardiganshire, in 1866. By the good guidance of religious parents he was at an early age brought under the influence of the Christian Church.

He was accustomed to look back with much appreciation to the benefits he had received from the Sunday-school. He started work as a miner, but when the call came to him to preach the Gospel he went for a term of preparation to the Gwynfryn School, Ammanford. After he was accepted as a candidate for the Methodist Ministry he was trained at Headingley College. He entered the Ministry in 1895.

A consecrated Christian minister, entirely unselfish, he rendered good and faithful service. In every sphere he served his God and his fellows without reservation, winning the confidence and love of his people. He was always a good student and a thoughtful preacher, with gifts which enabled him to contribute to Welsh literature.

Until the last few months of his life he continued to preach and to serve the Church. His greatest joy was to help the smaller churches of his circuit. His passing, although sudden, was most peaceful.

He died on the 10th March 1950, in the eighty-fourth year of his age and the fifty-fifth of his ministry.
