JONES, Arthur Edward 1862 - 1950

Born at Radstock in 1862. He was led to an early decision for Christ, and soon became a Sunday-school teacher. He was called to preach and entered the Ministry in 1888. After leaving Richmond College, he served for sixteen years in the Barbados.

Returning to this country he continued his gracious ministry in town and country circuits, where his fine courtesy, his devoted pastoral work, his diligence and care in administration, made him honoured and loved. He was a true Christian gentleman in thought, word, and deed, possessing those lofty qualities of mind and heart which led him to be a tactful counsellor and a true friend.

As a preacher he was always at home with the great evangelical themes and made the Bible a living book to his people. His cultured mind and steadfast faith helped him to interpret the truth with originality and charm. Many were comforted and helped by his messages, and he was instrumental in leading not a few to Christ.

His interest in the work of God overseas continued through his ministry, and when failing health prevented active personal advocacy he kept aglow the Circuit Missionary Prayer Circle. His memory will long be fragrant in many hearts.

To know him was to love him. He was meek and lowly of heart, a peacemaker and a servant of God.

He passed into the Father’s nearer presence on 29th January 1950, in his eighty-eighth year and the sixty-second of his ministry.
