TAYLOR, Frederick 1881 - 1962

Obituary from the Minutes of the Methodist Conference 1962, page 217

Born in Bury, Lancs, in 1881. He served for one year as a pre-collegiate at Ramsey, Isle of Man, before entering Handsworth College in 1903.

Subsequently he served at Chestedeld, Retford, Clitheroe, Farnworth. Preston, Whitehaven, Ulverston, Bridgend, Ormskirk, Yeovil, and Whitehaven, where failing health enforced his superannuation in 1941.

His ministry continued for twenty-one years at Fulwood, Preston.

Throughout his ministry he was particularly happy in the homes of his people and throughout all the time he was at Fulwood, despite several severe illnesses, he persisted to the limits of his strength to minister graciously and carefully wherever sickness, sorrow or any kind of distress was known to him.

He had a cultured, well stored mind, his reading was wide and deep and from the depths of sympathy and knowledge he brought treasures to his hearers.

No books were dearer to him than his New Testament, his Hymn book and St. Augustine’s Confessions of which he said : ” It speaks to my soul.”

He made no demands on life for himself, had no ambitious aspirations except the faithful service of his Lord, and the desire that his home should shelter the lonely, comfort the bereaved, and give security to the friendless.

He had a deep affection and a real concern for his beloved Methodism, and his brethren.

He died on 8 June 1962 in the eighty-second year of his age and the fifty-seventh of his ministry.
