ELLAMS, William Talbot 1892 - 1962

Obituary from the Minutes of the Methodist Conference 1962, page 210

Born in Manchester in 1892. His very earliest days were bound up with the work of the Manchester Mission, where his Father’s name will long be remembered in connection with the George Street Ragged School.

He was always keenly interested and active in Home Mission work, serving on deputation on a number of occasions and taking a prominent part in the Commando Campaign.

He saw service with the Manchester Regiment in Mesopotamia during the first World War and was mentioned in despatches.

He entered Handsworth College in 1919 and later moved to Richmond. During his ministry he served in Peel, Spennymoor, Keswick. Chesterfield, CarW, Caerphilly, Sunderland, Chester, Headingley, Shefield, Rugby and Crewe.

He was a friendly man and his conversations were marked by a kindly geniality and humble sincerity.

His preaching was simple and true. He was extremely methodical and strictly conscientious, spending much time and care in preparation for every activity.

He loved fellowship and was a keen gardener. His constant and final concern was the welfare of his circuit and the progress of the work.

He died at Sheffield on 23 February 1962, in the seventieth year of his age and the forty-second of his ministry.
