TAIT, David Donald 1900 - 1961

Born at Doncaster in 1900. He began his working life as a day-school teacher, but the call to the Ministry was to him irresistible, and after being trained at Handsworth College, he entered the Ministry in 1928.

He fulfilled an ever widening and deepening ministry in the South Devon Mission, the Manchester and Salford Mission, Liverpool, Chester, Bolton, Bristol and Ambleside.

He had great qualities of loyalty, courage and warmth of heart. He was a voracious reader and was very well acquainted with the thinking of his day, but was independent in his judgement.

His preaching had great thoughtfulness and his unusual presentation left the congregation asking themselves the vital questions.

In pastoral care he was diligent, sensitive and understanding. He had a genuine love of people and was equally at home with every level of society. He was as happy among the poor children of Salford as with the more leisurely people of Lakeland, and he ministered with equal acceptance to all. He was held in high regard by his brethren, for his well-stored mind and gracious spirit made him both esteemed and beloved.

During the last six months of his life he fought a brave battle against a devastating illness, but at no time did he lose faith or courage or cheerfulness.

He died on 1 August 1961, in the sixty-first year of his age and thirty-third of his ministry.
