RICHARDSON, Arthur Prince 1885 - 1962

Obituary from the Minutes of the Methodist Conference 1962, page 207

Born at Hutton Rudby, in the North Riding of Yorkshire, in 1885. As a youg man in his teens he went to Stockton-on-Tees to train for a business career.

It was there that he became a local preacher and later offered for the Wesleyan Ministry. He was accepted as a candidate in 1907, and after a pre-collegiate year in the Newton Abbot Circuit, he entered Handsworth College. He travelled in the following circuits : Mostyn Road, Pocklington, Highbury, Clacton-on-Sea, Garstang, Preston, Chorley, Danven, St. Helens and Prescot, Morecambe, Pontefract, Middlesbrough, Bolton, Accrington and Burnley.

When he retired in 1950 he made his home in Burnley, and during the years of his retirement he served the pulpits of Methodism and of the churches there and in the neighbouring towns.

He is remembered in the circuits in which he travelled for his pastoral work, especially for the way in which he was able to help those in sorrow and in trouble.

He was always keenly interested in work among young people, his main concern being to win them for the Kingdom. Books were his delight and his reading included a wide range of subjects, but all of it was part of his preparation for his pulpit ministry.

He was active to within ten days of his death, which took place after an operation on 9 February 1962, in the seventy-seventh year of his age and the fifty-second year of his ministry.
