Rev William Richard Rogers 1810 to 1836
His early life - Oswestry and Birmingham
William Richard was born in Oswestry in 1810, according to his obituary published in the Minutes of Conference 1868. His parents moved to Birmingham when he was very young and when completing the Census Returns for both 1851 and 1861 he gives Birmingham as his place of birth. I have so far been unable to discover much about his parents other than his father was called Richard and that he was a button manufacturer.
On the 2nd December 1833 William Richard married Mary Ann Watkins Leather in Edgbaston. The marriage took place a few years after William Richard had become a Local Preacher, a role he continued in for a total of five years.
In 1836 he was accepted to be a Wesleyan Missionary and was sent to the West Indies.
