LITTLE, Charles Deane 1881 - 1962

Obituary from the Minutes of the Methodist Conference 1962, page 201

Born in Ballynahinch, Co. Down, in 1881. When a young man he came to England as an apprentice in the ironmongery trade, but even in those early years he felt the call to the Ministry, and particularly to work overseas.

After being trained at Richmond College he was sent to Hunan.

His earnest purpose, his wise counsel, his humour and his faithful pastoral ministry proved him to be a man devoted to God.

He returned to England in 1925 and travelled in Leek, Wigan, Bury, Manchester, Bacup and Aberystwyth.

For ten useful years he was an active supernumerary in Blackwell, Derbyshire. He continued to serve his Church to the end by supplying in circuits at Oldham West, Warrenpoint, Co. Down, and again at Blackwell.

He was an expert in the history of Methodism in South Lancashire. He was always busy and he took a loyal, modest, but graciously effective part in the work of the Eccles Circuit, taking two appointments on the Sunday before his death.

He died on 6 January 1962 at the age of eighty, in the fifty-fifth year of his ministry.
