LEGG, Tom Charles 1875 - 1949

Obituary from the Minutes of the Methodist Conference 1950, page 122

Born at Gosport, Hampshire, in 1875. After training at Hands worth College, he entered the Ministry in 1904. He travelled in circuits as far apart as Margate and Carlisle, the Scilly Isles and Sunderland, but spent sixteen of the last seventeen years of his active ministry in the Midlands.

In 1940 he went to Woolwich, but after one year there retired to Uttoxeter, Staffs. Here he continued to serve his beloved Church as far as his strength would allow.

At the time of Methodist Union he was Secretary of the Macclesfield District, and continued as Secretary of the Stoke-on-Trent and Macclesfield District for five years. He was beloved by his brethren for his efficient and devoted work in this office.

A perfect Christian gentleman and a most sympathetic and understanding pastor, he was passionately fond of children, and his home was always open to young folk, who remember him gratefully. He gladly used all his gifts in the service of Christ and His Church.

He died at Uttoxeter, on 9th August 1949, in his seventy-fifth year and in the forty-fifth year of his ministry.
