HALL, Albert Cecil 1885 - 1950

Obituary from the Minutes of the Methodist Conference 1950, page 152

Born at Bromyard in Herefordshire in 1885. Of good Methodist stock he entered the Wesleyan Ministry with a great enthusiasm for missionary work overseas, and after training at Headingley College he was sent to India. He began his ministry in 1911 in the Trichinopoly district. He was there until 1923 when it was decided that the climate was imposing too great a strain upon the health of his wife, and he was obliged to come to England.

He was able to return to Trichinopoly in 1926 and to remain there until 1931.

He had a great love for the Methodist Church and people, devoting his many gifts completely to their service. To his task as preacher and pastor he brought a mind richly stored with the fruits of wide reading and a deep spiritual experience which made him a very welcome visitor in the pulpit and in the home.

His great strength of character commanded the respect of all who knew him, his gifts and graces of personality won for him the abiding affection of those who knew him best. He was uncompromising in his devotion to the loftiest traditions of the ministry and tireless in his efforts to present the claims of Christ.

During the last years of his ministry he was severely handicapped by the condition of his heart, but no evidence of this disability was allowed to appear in his work, and his death, after a very brief illness, came as a shock to his colleagues. It had been his great desire to complete his forty years of ministry without relaxing the high standards he had set for himself from the beginning.

He died on Whit Sunday, 28th May, at the age of sixty-four in the thirty-ninth year of his ministry.
